Artificial Intelligence Advisory Group Charge
Artificial Intelligence (AI) will transform higher education. NC State seeks to continue and expand its national and global excellence and reach in the application of AI through research, in teaching and in university management. This will require the ability to be anticipatory and adaptable as technology continues to change.
The AI Advisory Group will help NC State lead in the innovation and application of AI. The group will advise university leadership on strategic directions to anticipate AI use in short, intermediate and long-term future scenarios as well as generate ideas for potential responses to those scenarios. This advisory group will also play a key role in anticipating and considering the challenges of such innovation and implementation. In this context, the advisory group will need to ask questions such as:
- How do we ensure data privacy and security in light of AI advances in classrooms at NC State?
- How do we define and monitor appropriate use of AI in research labs and classrooms?
- How do we develop a reliable and trustworthy AI-based system while identifying and anticipating its potential biases?
- How do we anticipate the university education system of the future, in light of AI? In this context, what are best practices for evaluation in the classroom when both students and instructors are using AI?
- How do we train students such that their education is resilient relative to changes in available jobs?
This is not an exhaustive list and questions will change as the technology changes. The group will bring in key campus stakeholders to help consider particular topics
