Artificial Intelligence Advisory Group
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Advisory Group, created in 2024 by Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Warwick Arden and Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Mladen Vouk, will help NC State lead in the innovation and application of AI.
The AI Advisory Group will meet on a regular basis with the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, the Executive Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, and the Vice Chancellor for Information Technology.
The AI Advisory Group will meet both as a whole and as three subgroups.
- AI and Research Innovation and Application Subgroup: This subgroup focuses on AI and the future of research, with a key consideration being the question of how NC State will continue to serve as a hub for innovation and application of AI research tools.”
- AI and Administration/Education Subgroup: This subgroup focuses on AI in higher education, with key considerations including the ways in which NC State can lead in the implementation of AI in administration, education and other dimensions of running a world class university.
- AI and Business Operations Subgroup: The subgroup focuses on overlap between the issues arising from university business uses of AI in research and teaching, with key considerations including security, privacy, compliance and data insights.
Resources
The AI Advisory Group has compiled a running list of resources for AI usage, created either internally by subgroups or by the group as a whole. These resources include but are not limited to AI guidelines and principles, lists of available AI tools, and guidance for AI use in business practices
- Tools
- NC State has approved a range of AI products and tools for student, staff and faculty use with Green or Yellow data without the need to submit an IT Purchase Compliance (ITPC) review request. Any use of Red or Purple data will still require an ITPC review request.

- This product outlines NC State’s principles for responsible AI use in research, empowering our researchers to explore the full potential of AI while adhering to the highest ethical standards.

- Apply the following business guidelines to your use of AI to help promote responsible usage, maintain professional standards and promote a positive working environment.

- These guiding principles serve as a flexible framework for appropriate use regarding AI adoption, usage, and development in accordance with NC State’s goal to embrace the responsible and effective usage of AI to elevate our missions and goals.
