The GIBC was created in accordance with North Carolina General Statute §58-31-60. The Group Insurance and Benefits Committee is concerned with all types of group insurance and retirement programs for employees. It is also concerned with other fringe benefits that promote the welfare of the faculty and/or staff of the University.

Call to Order: Stephen Porter, Chair, called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.

Minutes: The committee reviewed and approved the September 13, 2016 meeting minutes.

Benefits Office Updates: Joe Williams, HR Benefits Director

Review of Annual Enrollment:

There were some modifications to the retiree health plan. We dropped the Humana and defaulted into the United Health Care plan. The 70/30 is also available to retirees, but few remain in this plan.

This year during the last weeks of annual enrollment, we reach out to those employees that showed the tobacco surcharge. We let them know that they had completed their annual enrollment and completed their tobacco attestation.

Joe did a quick overview of the HR new website. Overview of the voluntary retirement plans that the university offers to employees.  Recognition and wellness portion of the website that is offered to employees by the university. Wolfperks, employee discount program, perks offered are cellular discounts, moving are just a few of the discounts offered for employees.
